當地時間10月5日，美國歷史學會（American Historical Association）公布了2015年度獲獎名單，頒獎典禮將于明年1月7日在亞特蘭大舉行。其中，國內學界較為關注的費正清獎（The John K. Fairbank Prize）花落新奧爾良洛約拉大學（Loyola Univ. New Orleans）的Rian Thum，作品為The Sacred Routes of Uyghur History（Harvard Univ. Press, 2014）。該書認為，通過追溯漫長的地方宗教和文化傳統，才能對維吾爾族人的歷史形成較為真切的理解。它利用了察合臺和波斯的文獻、當代維吾爾族小說、涂鴉以及民族志田野調查，以揭示歷史的復雜面貌。去年該獎授予了哥倫比亞大學歷史系教授查爾斯?K.阿姆斯特朗（Charles K. Armstrong）的《弱者的專制：北朝鮮與世界，1950–1992》一書。

據洛約拉大學官網介紹，Rian Thum是學考古出身，2000年在密蘇里大學獲得學士學位，曾做過敘利亞、羅馬尼亞和中國的學術項目。后在哈佛大學從事內亞和阿爾泰語方面的研究，主題是新疆維吾爾族人的歷史，2010年獲得博士學位，目前擔任洛約拉大學人文和自然科學學院助理教授（Assistant Professor）。

值得注意的是，該名單還包括約翰·E·奧康納電影獎（The John E. O’Connor Film Award），獲獎影片是《為奴十二載》（2013）和紀錄片The Ghosts of Amistad: In the Footsteps of the Rebels。
